DEATH DOESN'T SUIT ME

2016

On a daily basis we get confronted with news of the refugee crisis and shocking photographs of people drowned at sea. We take notice of all that horror from a safe distance. But are we still deeply touched by this flood of images? Or are we indifferent already and have given up?

Women, men, children – Hoping for a better and secure life they risk to die on their journey. Death is their permanent companion. This installation artwork makes reference to the baroque “Dance of death” shown on the paintings at the Spreuer-Bridge nearby: Death maliciously personified as an ideal feminine figure wearing a life jacket and a warming scarf. Memento mori!
