VARIOUS PAPER CUTTINGS
from 2019
In my paper cut-outs, I explore the complexity of femininity through a variety of motifs that are combined and reinterpreted using collage techniques. Each work is an artistic commentary on social norms and gender roles.
One outstanding work shows a medieval “Maria Lactans” cut out of an art auction catalog. I have glued tampons onto this image, their blue strings approaching the Virgin Mary like sperm - a provocative connection between fertility and female identity. In another work, a woman carries a rifle, while a third shows nipples, addressing the themes of power, sexuality and physicality.
The pencil sketches are often still visible and add an extra dimension to the works, illustrating the process of creation and the search for meaning. I also create silhouettes that thematize certain concepts such as “fountains” or figures from well-known paintings, such as those by Picasso.
My paper cuts are always in bright colors and combine different papers, creating a dynamic, visually appealing expression.
